About this program
SCU's Bachelor of Education (Primary) is a 32-unit, four-year degree that front-loads professional experience earlier and more frequently than a lot of comparable teaching degrees: four separate professional experience placements are built into the structure rather than one long final-year practicum. Like the university's other degrees, it runs on six-week teaching blocks, which changes the rhythm of assignment deadlines and exam periods compared to a standard semester system.
For students who decide partway through that primary teaching isn't the right fit, or who need to pause for financial or personal reasons, SCU built in staged exit qualifications: complete 24 units and you can leave with a Bachelor of Educational Studies, 16 units gets an Associate Degree of Educational Studies, and 8 units gets a Diploma of Education. That's an unusually explicit safety net compared to most teaching degrees, which tend to treat any early departure as a dropout rather than a credentialed off-ramp.
Graduates are eligible for registration as primary school teachers through NESA (or the equivalent body interstate), and the degree can also be taken combined with a Bachelor of Arts for students who want breadth alongside the teaching qualification.

- Four Professional Experience placements distributed across the degree, increasing in duration and responsibility
- Exit points: Diploma of Education (8 units) / Associate Degree of Educational Studies (16 units) / Bachelor of Educational Studies (24 units) / full Bachelor of Education, Primary specialisation
- Final-year capstone professional experience placement and portfolio for NESA-aligned graduate teacher standards
Admissions
ATAR ~65+ (or equivalent Year 12), plus Working with Children Check
