Bachelor of Nursing

SCU's Bachelor of Nursing is built around 840 hours of supervised clinical placement, the threshold AHPRA sets for registration eligibility, spread across residential aged care, GP practices, community health settings and hospital wards in regional and sometimes remote New South Wales. Placements run two to six weeks at a stretch, and because SCU's campuses sit outside the major capitals (Lismore, Coffs Harbour, Gold Coast), students frequently end up placed in rural and under-served facilities that metro university cohorts rarely see, a genuine point of difference for anyone weighing a nursing career outside the big cities.

The degree is structured as a three-year progression where clinical exposure escalates each year rather than being backloaded into a single capstone placement block, which the university describes as scaffolding cognitive, emotional and clinical capability development in parallel. Coursework covers pathophysiology, pharmacology, mental health nursing and aged care alongside the practical placement rotations.

Graduates are eligible to apply for registration as a Registered Nurse with AHPRA, and the regional placement footprint means many students end up with employment leads in the same communities where they trained.
