Bachelor of Psychological Science

Southern Cross University, Lismore/Gold Coast/Coffs Harbour, NSW, Australia

About this program

This is the accreditation-pathway degree for students who actually want to become psychologists rather than just study psychology as a general interest. It's conditionally accredited by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) as the first rung (the 3+1 model still requires a fourth-year Honours or equivalent afterward). SCU also offers the Honours year as a direct follow-on, which is the fully APAC-accredited stage that unlocks provisional registration and postgraduate clinical training.

Students can pursue the Psychology Extension Major for the most direct route toward the accredited sequence, or take a shared major or open electives if they want psychology alongside another discipline without committing to the registration pathway from day one, useful for students still deciding whether clinical psychology, forensic work, or something adjacent like HR or research is the actual goal.

Coursework covers the core APAC knowledge areas: biological bases of behaviour, cognition, developmental psychology, social psychology, and research methods and statistics, with statistics weighted more heavily than in most humanities degrees given how much of professional psychology training downstream depends on quantitative research literacy.
