Bachelor of Information Technology (Data Engineering)

TAFE NSW, Multi-campus, NSW, Australia

About this program

This is TAFE NSW's data engineering bachelor's, delivered out of the Meadowbank campus, and it's built specifically around the infrastructure and pipeline side of data work: designing, implementing and managing big data systems, rather than the more analysis-and-modelling focus a typical data science degree takes. Students work across data security, cloud computing on both AWS and Microsoft Azure, and emerging database technologies, with the course explicitly designed around industry certification pathways from Cisco, AWS, Microsoft, Red Hat and CompTIA rather than treating certification as an optional extra.

At 24 subjects and 240 credit points over three years, the structure mirrors TAFE NSW's other IT bachelor's degrees, with 21 core subjects and 3 electives, and the practical partnerships with vendors like Palo Alto, Juniper and Oracle mean students are training on tools those companies actually use in production, not generic teaching environments.

Graduates go on to roles like data engineer, SQL developer, cloud data engineer, big data analyst and data warehouse engineer, a more infrastructure-and-pipeline-focused set of outcomes than the model-building and analytics roles a pure data science degree tends to produce.
