Bachelor of Creative Practice (Music Production and Performance)
TAFE NSW, Multi-campus, NSW, Australia
About this program
This degree is the top tier of a deliberately staged three-year pathway: a one-year Diploma of Music first, in a student's choice of Sound Production, Performance, or Creation and Composition specialisation, followed by the two-year Bachelor of Creative Practice (Music Production and Performance) itself. That staged structure means students test their specialisation choice at diploma level before committing to the longer bachelor's stage, and it gives TAFE NSW a natural exit point for students who want a shorter, standalone qualification rather than the full degree.
Unlike a conservatorium-style performance degree that concentrates heavily on classical technique and repertoire, this program is built for working across performance, production and composition simultaneously, reflecting how contemporary music careers rarely stay confined to just one of those roles. The Sound Production diploma track, for instance, is explicitly aimed at assistant sound engineer and sound designer roles in the entertainment industry, while Creation and Composition leans toward electronic production, sound design and music distribution.
Students come out with both technical production skills and performance capability, positioned for careers as recording artists, producers, composers or session musicians rather than a single narrow professional track.
