Bachelor of Fashion Design

TAFE NSW, Multi-campus, NSW, Australia

About this program

Delivered through TAFE NSW's Fashion Design Studio, a name in Australian fashion education dating back to 1955, this three-year degree ends with the sort of milestone most fashion schools treat as the whole point: in third year, students design and present their own collection and graduate holding a portfolio of realised, physical garments rather than just a folio of sketches and coursework grades. Two separate work placements are built into the structure, positioned by the university as much for building professional networks in the industry as for skill development.

The course is taught through what TAFE NSW calls a global fashion business lens, meaning students aren't just learning pattern-making and construction but also studying the industry side: trend forecasting, international market awareness, and the commercial context a design has to survive in once it leaves the studio.

As a TAFE NSW degree rather than a standalone art school program, students get access to the technical machinery and production facilities the vocational fashion program uses, which tends to mean more hands-on garment construction time than programs run purely as academic design theory courses.
