Bachelor of Information Technology (Cyber & Network Security)

TAFE NSW's own bachelor's degree in cyber and network security is a genuinely different animal from its VET certificates in the same subject area. This is a 24-subject, 240-credit-point higher education award, assessed and structured as a degree rather than a training package. What sets it apart from an equivalent university IT degree is where it sits inside the organisation: TAFE NSW runs vocational cyber security qualifications right up to diploma level at the same campuses, so students move through Certificate/Diploma pathways into the bachelor's without changing institutions, and staff teaching the degree often come out of hands-on industry security roles rather than purely academic backgrounds.

The curriculum covers network design, administration and security, with a deliberate emphasis on critical analysis of security risk and applying real mitigation policies rather than treating security as a bolt-on topic within a general IT degree. Cybercrime protection and the use of emerging technologies to manage security threats sit at the centre of the coursework, not the periphery.
