Bachelor of Creative Industries (Drama and Performance)

Run out of TAFE Queensland's South Bank campus in partnership with the University of Canberra, this degree trains performers alongside the people who will end up producing, facilitating and managing the work around them. The course explicitly covers the role of arts facilitators, educators, producers and project managers in creating socially engaged performance work, not just acting technique.

It's built to take students at very different starting points: TAFE Queensland describes it as suited to complete beginners as much as emerging or already-working performers who want to formalise their practice, sit alongside performance theory and pick up professional and entrepreneurial skills they may not have needed for community or amateur work. South Bank's location gives the cohort proximity to Brisbane's professional theatre scene, and the course draws on that for industry contact and, per TAFE Queensland's own program materials, an active on-campus theatre community.

It's a three-year, Commonwealth Supported Place degree with entry based on an entrance rank and typical alternate pathway and admission scheme options. Graduates move into performance work, but the producer/facilitator strand of the curriculum also opens out into arts administration, community arts and theatre-in-education roles that a pure acting degree wouldn't prepare students for as directly.
