Master of Divinity

The Master of Divinity is the professional ministry-formation degree at the University of Divinity, and its scale reflects that: 432 points across 18 units, a three-year full-time load that most students actually take considerably longer than three years to finish, since it's the standard qualifying degree for ordained ministry across several of the denominations that make up the university's college federation. It combines academic theological study (biblical languages, systematics, church history) with practical formation units in preaching, pastoral care, liturgy and mission that a purely academic theology degree wouldn't include.

Because students enrol through a specific college rather than a generic university faculty, the Master of Divinity looks noticeably different depending on whether it's taken at, say, a Catholic seminary college or a Baptist or Uniting Church college: denominational formation requirements, placement structures and even which biblical languages are compulsory can vary, even though the degree title and the awarding university are the same.
