Graduate Diploma in Divinity

The Graduate Diploma in Divinity is a shorter postgraduate credential for students who already hold a bachelor's degree, often but not always in theology, and want structured graduate-level theological formation without committing to the full length of a Master of Divinity. It's a common pathway for people converting a degree in an unrelated field into theological qualification ahead of ministry candidacy, or for graduates of a Bachelor of Theology or Bachelor of Ministry wanting to add a postgraduate credential before deciding whether to pursue the full Master of Divinity.

Like everything else at the University of Divinity, it's delivered through a specific member college, so the exact mix of units, and how much practical ministry formation is built in versus purely academic content, depends on which college a student enrols with, whether that's a Catholic, Anglican, Uniting Church, Baptist or other tradition-specific institution within the federation.

Many students use it as a stepping stone: credit typically transfers into the Master of Divinity for those who go on to complete it, so the diploma isn't a dead end so much as a shorter first commitment.
