About this program
UNE's law school is small compared to the sandstone universities but it was a genuine pioneer in flexible legal education. UNE offers its LLB fully online, which for a long time was unusual among Australian law degrees given how heavily traditional legal pedagogy leaned on in-person Socratic seminar teaching, and the school built out video-based moot court and virtual tutorial infrastructure specifically to make that model work for law rather than treating online delivery as a lesser substitute.
The degree covers the Priestley 11 compulsory subjects like any accredited Australian LLB, but UNE's context (regional NSW, a large mature-age and rural cohort) shapes elective demand toward areas like agricultural and rural law, water rights, and native title, topics that carry direct professional relevance for graduates likely to end up practising in regional firms rather than capital-city commercial practice.
A meaningful share of UNE law students are combining the LLB with work or a farm business rather than studying full-time straight out of school, and the university's assessment scheduling (block intensives, flexible submission windows) reflects that reality more directly than a metropolitan law school's calendar would.
