About this program

Notre Dame's MD is a four-year graduate-entry program taught at the Fremantle campus (Sydney also runs the degree), accredited by the Australian Medical Council. The first two years use problem-based learning as the backbone rather than traditional lecture-heavy pre-clinical teaching: small tutorial groups work through clinical cases collaboratively with a facilitator rather than being taught anatomy and physiology in isolation from clinical context.

The distinguishing feature is the rural and community health emphasis: third year is run jointly with UWA through the Rural Clinical School of Western Australia, and around a quarter of each cohort can opt into a full year-long placement in a rural WA clinical site instead of the standard rotation structure. Clinical years also include a compulsory rural or remote general practice placement for everyone, not just those on the extended rural track, a genuine point of difference from more metro-focused medical schools.
