Bachelor of Engineering (Honours)

Ask most Queensland engineering academics who teaches the most students by distance and UniSQ's name comes up first: the university has run distance-education engineering programs for more than four decades and is Australia's largest provider of engineering degrees delivered off-campus. The Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) is the degree that carries that reputation, and it shows in how the labs are built: UniSQ's Remote Access Laboratories let external students run real instrumentation and measurement experiments over the internet rather than substituting simulations for hands-on work.

Students choose a major from the usual spread (civil, electrical and electronic, mechanical, mechatronic, power, and others) and the degree is accredited by Engineers Australia, so graduates sit the same accreditation bar as anyone from a metro sandstone university. A supervised professional placement is built into the course, which matters more than it sounds for a program with a large external cohort: it's the mechanism that gets distance students onto an actual work site before graduation, not just into a classroom.

The university has also been ranked Australia's number one for graduate starting salary by the Good Universities Guide, a data point UniSQ leans on in its own marketing but which is at least consistent with an engineering-heavy graduate profile. Whether a given student is based in Toowoomba, Springfield, or studying entirely online from a mine site or a regional town, the course structure and assessment are designed to be identical, which is unusual enough among Australian engineering schools to be worth naming directly.
