About this program
The Bachelor of Laws (Honours) at UTS is notable for not requiring a separate honours year. Honours is built into the standard degree through a research methodology subject and a research thesis, so a student who wants first or second class honours doesn't have to add time to their course. Two thesis pathways exist: a set honours stream in Legal Futures and Technology, aimed at students interested in how automation, data and platform regulation are reshaping legal practice, or an open-topic thesis supervised individually, drawing on options like criminology, media law, privacy or jurisprudence.
UTS Law has leaned publicly into a "law in context" identity rather than a black-letter one, and the technology-and-law angle shows up across the degree, not just in the honours stream: the faculty runs its own legal tech incubator space and has partnerships with several commercial firms building AI tools for legal practice.
The degree satisfies academic admission requirements for the NSW Supreme Court, and students can complete their Practical Legal Training either within the course or afterward via a separate Graduate Certificate in Professional Legal Practice (C11232). Graduates who complete PLT are eligible for admission as a lawyer in NSW without further study.
