Bachelor of Nursing

UTS's nursing program is built around clinical placement volume: up to 840 hours across the standard three-year degree, spread over seven placement-embedded subjects, in settings that include more than 100 partner hospitals and clinics across Sydney and regional NSW. Placements start in first session of first year, which is earlier than a lot of comparable programs, and they run in blocks of two to six weeks during non-teaching periods, including over summer.

The university's health faculty sits close to Royal Prince Alfred and other major Sydney teaching hospitals, and clinical rotations cover acute care, aged care, mental health, community and paediatric settings by the time students graduate. Because the degree leads to registration eligibility with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia, the course is necessarily prescriptive about sequencing. Students can't just pick subjects in whatever order suits them, since clinical subjects have theory prerequisites that must be passed first.

Students entering with a health-related diploma or relevant work experience sometimes move through an accelerated 640-hour placement pathway rather than the full 840, though eligibility depends on prior recognised learning.
