About this program

The Bachelor of Design in Architecture is the first half of UTS's five-year path to a professional architecture qualification (it's typically paired with the Master of Architecture afterward). What sets the course structure apart is the density of studio time: six dedicated Architectural Studio subjects run across the degree, one nearly every session, each built around a different design problem, and students are in studio roughly six contact hours a week on top of the compulsory theory and technical subjects.

Year 1 and 2 pair one 12-credit-point studio with two 6-credit-point subjects each session; year 3 shifts to one studio, one compulsory subject and one elective, giving students more room to specialise toward computational design, sustainability or heritage depending on interest. The faculty's building has laser cutters, 3D printers and dedicated studio floors that stay open outside class hours, which matters for a discipline where a lot of the real learning happens building physical models at 11pm before a crit.

Graduates who go on to the Master of Architecture emerge eligible to register as architects in NSW; those who stop at the bachelor's typically move into architectural assistant or design roles while completing further study part-time.
