Bachelor of Education (Primary)
University of the Sunshine Coast, Sippy Downs, QLD, Australia
About this program
UniSC's Bachelor of Education (Primary) requires 80 days of supervised professional experience delivered as four full-time placement blocks, plus 40 hours of separate wider field experience, a structure that front-loads real classroom time earlier and more heavily than some equivalent degrees. Students need a Blue Card before their first placement, with applications needing to go in a full twelve weeks ahead of the block start, which is a scheduling constraint that shapes first-year enrolment planning more than students often expect going in.
From second year, students choose between an English or STEM specialisation, a fork that reflects the two national curriculum priority areas primary schools have been under the most pressure to strengthen over the past several years, particularly STEM given well-documented national concerns about numeracy outcomes.
The degree leads to provisional registration with the Queensland College of Teachers on graduation (subject to standard requirements), and UniSC's placement network draws heavily on Sunshine Coast and wider regional Queensland schools, giving graduates a practical head start on employment in regional and rural postings that some metropolitan-based teaching degrees don't emphasise as strongly.
