Bachelor of Communication
University of the Sunshine Coast, Sippy Downs, QLD, Australia
About this program
UniSC's Bachelor of Communication runs students through the standard media, journalism, and public relations foundations before letting them specialise, and the degree leans on the university's growing profile in regional and digital media rather than pretending to compete head-on with the big-masthead placement networks that Sydney or Melbourne journalism schools can offer. Students get exposure to regional broadcasters, local papers, and the Sunshine Coast's expanding digital content and marketing sector, which is a genuinely different professional network than what a capital-city program would provide.
The course covers writing, media law and ethics, and digital content production, with students able to lean toward journalism, public relations, or social media and digital communication depending on their career direction. A work-integrated learning placement in the final year is standard, and UniSC has been building out its digital media production facilities on campus in recent years as student demand shifts away from traditional broadcast toward content creation and social platforms.
Graduates typically move into roles in regional media, corporate communications, digital marketing agencies, or government and not-for-profit communications teams.
