UniSC's nursing degree requires a minimum of 800 clinical placement hours for NMBA registration eligibility, delivered in consecutive-week blocks that students find out about roughly ten weeks ahead of time, a scheduling rhythm that shapes how students plan work and life around the degree more than most other bachelor programs would. Placements begin in first year and run across hospital, aged care, community and primary health settings, with a Clinical Placement Office handling allocation separately from the academic teaching team.

The teaching model blends clinical simulation labs and virtual reality environments with the placement hours themselves, and electronic medical records training is built in from early in the course rather than left for graduates to pick up on the job. UniSC's health teaching facilities on the Sunshine Coast campus are relatively new, built with simulation wards designed to mimic hospital layouts rather than generic classroom space.

A graduate-entry pathway exists for students who already hold a related degree, compressing the timeline, and the standard degree can also lead into an honours year for students interested in nursing research rather than moving straight into clinical practice after graduation.
