About this program
The first stage of UNSW's architecture pathway, leading toward the Master of Architecture for accreditation as a registered architect, taught through the Built Environment faculty with design studio as the backbone of every year rather than a single subject among many. Studio culture at UNSW leans toward digital fabrication and computational design, and the faculty's fabrication workshops give students hands-on model-making and prototyping access that shapes how design projects get assessed.
Sydney's architecture and construction industry provides the backdrop for a lot of studio briefs, and the degree includes history, theory, and technology subjects alongside the studio sequence so graduates aren't purely design-focused going into the Masters.

4 terms of coursework
- Year 1: Design Studio 1 & 2, Architectural History and Theory, Architectural Technology, Digital Representation
- Year 2: Design Studio 3 & 4, Structures, Environmental Design, history/theory electives
- Year 3: Design Studio 5 & 6, Construction and Materials, Professional Practice, portfolio development
- Progression: leads into the Master of Architecture (separate, required for accreditation)
Admissions
ATAR 85 or equivalent, portfolio may be required
IELTS 6.5 (no band below 6.0)
