About this program

UNSW's MIT is a conversion masters aimed squarely at people without a computing background wanting to move into tech: it's one of the larger postgraduate cohorts in the School of Computer Science and Engineering, and a big share of students come from commerce, engineering, or science degrees rather than CS. Foundation-level courses cover programming and systems from close to zero, then the degree moves into database systems, software engineering practice, and networking before students pick a specialisation.

Specialisation streams have included artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and enterprise systems, and which one attracts enrolment tends to track the Sydney tech job market at any given time. UNSW's CSE school has close ties to Sydney's tech and finance sectors, and MIT students get some access to that same careers pipeline, though the school is upfront that industry placement isn't guaranteed and depends on individual hustle.
