About this program
Positioned within UNSW Medicine & Health, this is a research-oriented biomedical science degree rather than a direct medical pathway. It doesn't guarantee entry to the MD, but it's a common and well-regarded lead-in for students applying via GAMSAT later, and its lab-based teaching draws on UNSW's medical research strength (the Kirby Institute, Lowy Cancer Research Centre, and similar are genuinely accessible for honours placements).
The degree is heavy on laboratory practical work from first year, with class sizes shrinking and specialisation increasing sharply by third year, when students choose a discipline stream such as pharmacology, pathology, neuroscience, or immunology.

- Year 4 (Honours pathway, competitive): independent research thesis with a UNSW Medicine research group
