Bachelor of Nursing

Victoria University, Melbourne, VIC, Australia

About this program

VU's nursing degree runs out of the St Albans campus and requires 288 credit points of core study plus roughly 800 hours of clinical placement and around 140 hours of simulation training at the Sunshine Clinical School, which sits alongside a working hospital precinct in Melbourne's west. The clinical simulation load is concentrated in third year, after students have built up foundational anatomy, physiology and nursing practice units in years one and two.

The course leads to registration eligibility with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia, and VU's placement partnerships lean on the public hospitals across Melbourne's western and northern suburbs, with Western Health and its network featuring heavily, rather than a spread across the whole city, which means graduates often end up working close to where they trained.

A combined Bachelor of Midwifery/Bachelor of Nursing pathway also exists at VU for students who know from the outset they want registration in both areas, though the standalone nursing degree is the more common entry point.
