About this program
WSU's Bachelor of Computer Science covers the expected core sequence (programming, data structures, algorithms, systems and databases), with the option to specialise later in areas like software engineering, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity or networking. The degree is taught primarily out of the Kingswood and Parramatta campuses, and WSU has invested in growing its cybersecurity and cyber-physical systems research groups over recent years, which flows down into some of the specialisation electives available to undergraduates.
The university draws a large proportion of its student cohort from Greater Western Sydney itself, meaning many computer science students are first-in-family university attendees, and WSU's course design leans on strong first-year academic support (peer mentoring, transition subjects) to account for that rather than assuming a cohort that arrived with strong prior computing exposure.
