Bachelor of Medical Science

WSU's Bachelor of Medical Science lets students choose one of three primary majors: Biomedical Science, Anatomy and Physiology, or Human Nutrition. The flexible elective structure means students can add a second major (80 credit points) or minors like Environmental Health, Infectious Diseases, or Microbiology from the university's broader science and health offerings. It's a three-year science degree rather than a clinical or professional program, aimed at students heading toward postgraduate medicine, allied health, research, or laboratory science careers rather than direct clinical registration.

The Biomedical Science major builds an integrated foundation across biochemistry, cell biology, genetics, physiology and anatomy, while Anatomy and Physiology leans specifically into the structural and functional basis of human health and disease. WSU's science teaching draws on strong ties to Western Sydney's public hospital network for research placements and honours pathways, given the university's location across a region served by several major teaching hospitals.

Students completing the degree with strong results commonly progress into a fourth-year Honours program or graduate-entry medicine, dentistry, or other health professional degrees, with the flexible major/minor structure letting students shape their science background toward whichever pathway they're aiming for.
