About this program
WSU's Bachelor of Nursing is a 240-credit-point degree made up of 24 nursing subjects, with a minimum of 800 clinical placement hours (excluding public holidays) required across the three years to meet AHPRA registration requirements. Skills and knowledge are built first in on-campus simulated clinical settings before being consolidated in real placements across hospitals, aged care facilities, general practice, and community health teams. It's a staged model rather than throwing students into full clinical settings from day one.
Given Western Sydney's rapidly growing population and its multiple major public hospitals (Westmead among them being one of the largest hospital precincts in the state), students get placement exposure to a genuinely high-acuity, high-volume health system, and the university's nursing program has consistently ranked well nationally partly on the strength of those clinical partnerships.
An Enrolled Nurse pathway variant exists for students who already hold EN qualifications, letting them complete the degree on a accelerated timeline with credit for prior clinical experience, which is a meaningfully different cohort experience from the standard-entry three-year structure.

- Duration: 3 years full-time, 240 credit points, 24 nursing subjects
- Year 1: Foundations of Nursing Practice, Anatomy and Physiology, Health Assessment, on-campus simulated clinical practice
- Year 2: Adult Health Nursing, Mental Health Nursing, Pharmacology, Child and Family Health, clinical placement blocks begin
- Year 3: Complex Care Nursing, Aged Care, Primary Health Care, Professional Practice Experience, final placement block
- Total clinical placement: minimum 800 hours across hospitals, aged care facilities, GP practices, community health teams
- Alternate pathway: Enrolled Nurse entry with accelerated/credit-bearing structure
