Bachelor of Communication
Western Sydney University, Sydney, NSW, Australia
About this program
WSU's Bachelor of Communication covers journalism, public relations, and digital/social media as its main specialisation streams, taught with a practical, portfolio-building emphasis rather than a purely theoretical media studies approach. The program's Sydney-wide industry placements pull from both metropolitan mastheads and broadcasters and Western Sydney's own growing local and community media outlets, giving students exposure to a genuinely different regional media landscape alongside the standard capital-city options.
The course includes media law and ethics, writing and content production, and research methods subjects across the early years, before students specialise and undertake a work-integrated learning placement in their final year. WSU has also built out digital content and social media production facilities across its campuses in recent years, reflecting the shift in graduate employment away from traditional broadcast roles toward digital-first content and communications work.
Graduates commonly move into journalism, public relations, corporate and government communications, or digital marketing roles across both Sydney metropolitan employers and organisations based in the growing Western Sydney business corridor.
