Who is eligible
Commencing international students enrolling at the Armidale campus. The bursary continues each year if you keep a GPA of at least 4.5 on a 7-point scale, until the normal end of your course. Assessed on eligibility rather than a competitive application.
The University of New England gives eligible commencing international students a 20 percent reduction on published annual tuition. Unlike a first-year-only award, it renews for each year of your course as long as you keep the required GPA.
UNE is in Armidale in regional New South Wales, a genuinely regional area with low living costs, so the fee saving pairs with the regional study points toward the 190 and 491 visas. In 2026 the bursary is limited to on-campus study at Armidale.
The GPA check happens at the end of each academic year, a student who drops below the 4.5 GPA threshold at that point loses the bursary for the following year rather than being reassessed mid-year. The bursary cannot be deferred, transferred to another student, or paid out as cash, and it applies to tuition fees only. If a student withdraws or transfers out of UNE before completing their course, the bursary is forfeited rather than carried over or refunded in any form.
