Who is eligible
Commencing international undergraduate, postgraduate coursework and UNSW College diploma students who are citizens of one of the countries on UNSW's published list and start in 2026 or 2027. The list includes India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Indonesia, Vietnam, the Philippines, Nigeria, Kenya and South Africa. It does not include China, Malaysia, Singapore or Thailand. To get the International Student Award you submit a personal statement of up to 500 words through the UNSW Applicant Portal, and UNSW assesses it with your admissions application on academic merit and aptitude and commitment to study. You must hold an offer of admission, start full-time and on campus, and not be a current UNSW student. AGSM, UNSW Online, UNSW Canberra, Foundation, Hexamester-calendar and Study Abroad programs are excluded, and the award cannot be deferred. The competitive International Scientia Coursework Scholarship is a separate application.
UNSW's headline international award is the International Student Award, a 20 percent contribution toward tuition for every year of your program, for students from eligible countries who start in 2026 or 2027. It is not automatic: you submit a personal statement of up to 500 words through the UNSW Applicant Portal, and UNSW assesses it together with your admissions application on academic merit and your aptitude and commitment to study. UNSW says you hear within two days of your offer, or within two weeks of uploading the statement if you already hold an offer. You need an offer of admission, must start full-time on campus, and cannot defer the award. It can be combined with other UNSW scholarships but not with Sponsor Partners Program offers. AGSM, UNSW Online, UNSW Canberra, Foundation, Hexamester-calendar and Study Abroad programs are excluded. Eligibility is by citizenship. UNSW's published list includes India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Indonesia, Vietnam, the Philippines, Nigeria, Kenya and South Africa, and does not include China, Malaysia, Singapore or Thailand. UNSW also lists larger competitive awards, including the International Scientia Coursework Scholarship, the Australia's Global University Award and the UNSW College Award, which need a separate application. UNSW's Term 1 2027 scholarship applications close on 30 October 2026.
The International Student Award is limited to students commencing in 2026 or 2027, so it is tied to a specific commencement window rather than being open ended. UNSW is moving to a new Flex-Semester academic calendar from 2028.
