About this program
AIB's Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) sits alongside its DBA as the university's other doctoral offering, but follows the traditional academic model rather than the DBA's professional-practice framing: an independent, supervised research project intended to generate new theoretical knowledge in a business, commerce or management-related discipline. It is an AQF Level 10 qualification normally completed in 3 years full-time to 6 years part-time (with extensions considered up to 7 years), producing a thesis of 70,000 to 100,000 words assessed as a genuine contribution to knowledge.
As with the DBA, candidates work with a supervisory panel of a Principal Supervisor and Associate Supervisor(s) throughout candidature, with regular contact through AIB's research community, online forums and webinars.
Entry requires a Master of Philosophy, or a Master's degree (AQF Level 9) in Business and Commerce or a related discipline at Credit average or higher with an appropriate research component (minimum 40%), or a Bachelor's degree (AQF Level 8) in Business and Commerce or a related discipline with minimum Second Class Honours or equivalent. AIB is not a CRICOS-registered provider, so it cannot enrol Student Visa holders; the PhD is delivered 100% online.
