About this program
The Bachelor of Theology (BTheol) enables students to study biblical studies, biblical languages, theology and Christian history for personal interest or as preparation for postgraduate study and an academic career in theology. Unlike the Bachelor of Ministry and Theology, it does not prepare students for work as a pastor. Avondale is an institutional member of ANZATS and ANZATFE.

Course structure
24 units, 144 credit points, over six full time semesters (or part time equivalent), all units worth 6 credit points unless stated otherwise. Core units are BBNT26110 NT Greek 1A, BBOT16110 Hebrew 1A and WHPE10101 Foundations of Wellbeing. Discipline units form an 8 unit major (5 units in Biblical Studies with at least one at 300 level, drawn from units such as BBNT16110 Mark and Luke, BBOT26110 Hebrew Prophets, BBNT36110 Exegesis of John, BBOT36110 Daniel; and 5 units in Theology with at least one at 300 level, drawn from units such as THEO16110 Theology and Faith, THEO16120 Introduction to Adventist Heritage), plus 3 further units in either Biblical Studies or Theology, a 4 unit Minor from any undergraduate course and 4 Elective units
Admissions
A selection rank of at least 63 (ATAR plus adjustment factors), or 24 points in the IB Diploma, or NZ Year 13 NCEA Level 3 university entrance, or an appropriate uniTEST/TOWA or STAT score, for school leavers not currently in Year 12; an Australian Certificate IV (or equivalent NZ certificate) for VET entrants; at least 2 completed Bachelor's units, a bridging/enabling course, or 3 completed units of Avondale's Undergraduate Certificate in University Preparation for those who have already attended university; overseas qualifications assessed under Avondale's Admission Policy (HE) Appendix 1. Applicants must agree to Avondale Seminary's Code of Professional Ethics, and those enrolling in a CHMN or CHPL coded elective must additionally provide a pastoral recommendation, National Police Check, Working with Children Check and evidence of active church involvement.
