CQUniversity's Doctor of Philosophy (PhD, course code CL81) is a course of supervised research and study leading to submission of a thesis that makes a significant original contribution to knowledge, governed by CQU's Course Rules for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy. CQU also separately offers a Doctor of Philosophy by Portfolio (CD84), a Doctor of Philosophy (Industry) (CM33) and a PhD (Offshore) (CD86) for different candidate circumstances. A PhD is generally required for an academic career or a research-focused professional career.

  • progress is monitored on a time and progress basis rather than credit point accrual, with optional work-integrated learning appropriate to the candidate's discipline

Admissions

For international applicants: an honours degree in a relevant discipline, or an Australian bachelor degree (or equivalent) plus a graduate diploma at a high academic level, or an Australian bachelor degree (or equivalent) at a high academic level plus at least one year of relevant work experience, or a three or four year bachelor degree (or equivalent) with credit-level GPA in a relevant discipline, or CQUniversity's own Graduate Certificate in Research completed with distinction-level achievement, or alternative qualifications/experience deemed equivalent by the Research Higher Degrees Committee, plus selection of a research area and supervisor.
