About this program
The Master of Cultural Heritage and Museum Studies at Deakin University prepares students to shape how people understand, protect and engage with the past. Students study in Australia's largest and longest-running program of its kind, with more than 40 years of experience, building advanced knowledge across heritage, museums and contemporary issues such as intangible cultural heritage, sustainability and human rights. Course structure
- Academic Integrity and Respect at Deakin (0-credit-point compulsory unit) 2 credit points of core units: Museums, Heritage and Society
- Cultural Heritage and Museum Practice Plus 2 credit points from one stream: Collections and Curatorship (Managing Collections, Developing Exhibitions) or Heritage Practice (Heritage Practice: Fundamentals, Heritage Practice: Conservation and Managing Change). Plus a pathway: Minor Thesis (Research Design, Minor Thesis A/B/), Research Paper , or Professional Experience (Internship Capstone), plus remaining electives from World Heritage, Digital Interpretation, Applied Heritage Project, Internship
Admissions
Entry and course length depend on prior study: a related bachelor's degree plus two years' relevant work experience, a related bachelor honours degree, or a related graduate certificate/diploma gives admission credit and a 1-year full-time course (8 credit points); any bachelor's degree without related experience requires the full 1.5-year, 12-credit-point course
