About this program
The Master of Humanitarian, Development and Disaster Studies at Deakin University builds a deeper understanding of the crises shaping the world and the community-led responses working to address them. Students explore international development, humanitarian action, disaster and crisis response, and community development, and examine the causes and impacts of challenges such as climate change, poverty, forced migration and inequality. Through critical analysis of real issues, students learn how communities create practical and just solutions. Graduates work with aid agencies, NGOs, government and international organisations.

- Academic Integrity and Respect at Deakin (0-credit-point compulsory unit) 4 credit points of core units: Development, Humanitarianism and Community in an Era of Crisis
- Introduction to Humanitarianism, Development and Disasters
- Theories and Critiques of Humanitarianism, Development and Disasters
- Cross Cultural Communication and Practice Plus a pathway (Minor Thesis, Research Paper, or Professional Experience) and at least one stream from Disasters and Community Resilience, Community Development, International Development, or Humanitarianism
Admissions
Entry and credit load depend on prior study: with a related bachelor's degree plus two years' relevant work experience, a related bachelor honours degree, or a related graduate certificate/diploma, 4 credit points of admission credit apply for a 1-year full-time course; other applicants complete a longer course
