About this program
The Bachelor of Creative Writing at Edith Cowan University places storytelling at the heart of the course, developing students' awareness of and attention to voice, style, character, dialogue, empathy and influence. Students are introduced to writing techniques across a variety of forms including fiction, non-fiction and poetry, and learn how stories help us make sense of ourselves and the world. Graduates pursue careers in writing, publishing, editing and communication.

Course structure
1 term of coursework
- 240credit points of core and core-option units plus 120 credit points of electives, with no ATAR required for entry (Creative Humanities Portfolio Entry pathway). Year 1: Creative Writing, Writing Craft and Practice, Discovering Literature, a core option (Semester 1)
- Semester 1Writing Short Stories, Writing Drama, two electives (Semester 2). Year 2: Screenwriting, Writing Poetry, an elective, a core option
- Semester 1Writing Creative Non-Fiction, Introduction to Editing, two electives (Semester 2). Year 3: Writing Speculative Fiction, Creative Writing and the Market, Australian Literature, an elective
- the capstone Creative Writing Project, two electives (Semester 2). Core options include Storytelling and Social Media Influence, Digital Content Creation, Fundamentals of Journalism, and Literature and Theory. Total: 3 years full time or part time equivalent, on campus or online
Admissions
All applicants must meet the academic admission requirements for this course. The indicative or guaranteed ATAR is as published where applicable, or academic admission requirements may be satisfied through completion of one of the following: AQF Certificate IV, 0.25 EFTSL of study at bachelor level or higher at an Australian higher education provider or equivalent, an Undergraduate Certificate, the Skills for Tertiary Admissions Test, a University Preparation Course, the Indigenous University Orientation Course, or the Experience Based Entry Scheme. For international students, requirements include secondary school results.
