The Master of Arts (Performing Arts) at Edith Cowan University, offered through the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, is aimed at researchers, critics and practitioners from across the arts community who want to extend their independent capacity to operate in an increasingly multi-art-form and technologically based profession. Course structure

1 term of coursework

  • This is a research masters. Semester 1 of Year 1 covers Literature Review and Performing Arts Research Preparation. From Semester 2 of Year 1 through Year 2
  • students are enrolled in the Masters Thesis unit
  • re-enrolling each semester until the thesis is submitted for examination
  • with confirmation of candidature expected by the end of Year 1. Total: up to 2 years full time equivalent

Admissions

All applicants must attend an audition (for performance and directing) or an interview (for composition, musicology and other historic study areas), arranged with the relevant area head on application; further guidance is on ECU's Interviews, folios and auditions page. Academic admission requirements (Band 6) may be satisfied through completion of one of the following: a bachelor degree, or equivalent prior learning including at least five years of relevant professional experience.
