The Master of News and Entertainment Media at Edith Cowan University prepares students for a range of roles in the media industry and beyond, teaching the basics of journalism through to the practicalities of reporting and presenting news, entertainment and other content across television, radio, streaming, online and digital storytelling platforms. Course structure

1 term of coursework

  • Students complete 6 core units and 4 core option units across two years. Year 1 covers News and Entertainment Journalism and Radio Presentation and Production plus a core option
  • then Multiplatform News and Entertainment and TV Presentation and Production plus a further core option. Year 2 covers a 40 credit point Media Production Studio 1 plus a core option
  • then a further 40 credit point Media Production Studio 2 plus a final core option
  • such as Screen Storytelling
  • Screen Production Skills
  • Social and Digital Media Communication
  • Media Strategy and Leadership
  • or a Screen and Media Industry Placement. Total: 2 years full time equivalent

Admissions

Eligible applicants can use up to 60 credit points of Credit and Recognition of Prior Learning if they hold a bachelor degree or major in a broadcast media or journalism related discipline, relevant bachelor level coursework plus two years of journalism experience, or a Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma of Broadcasting. Applications are assessed individually. Academic admission requirements (Band 6) may be satisfied through completion of one of the following: a bachelor degree, or equivalent prior learning including at least five years of relevant professional experience.
