About this program
The Master of Science by Research at Edith Cowan University provides advanced, research-based study in theoretical and applied areas of biological science, environmental science, environmental management, sustainability, horticulture, bioinformatics, analytical chemistry, physics, data science or mathematics. Students undertake a significant independent research investigation resulting in a thesis, extending knowledge in the discipline alongside knowledge of research methods. The course develops high-level skills in research design, methods and analysis, and prepares graduates for a PhD or research-focused roles in industry and government.

Course structure
1 term of coursework
- Semester 1 of Year 1 covers Research Proposal Preparation and Research Preparation: Principles and Approaches
- then Master Research Preparation and an elective chosen with the Course Coordinator in Semester 2. From Year 2
- students are enrolled in the Master Thesis unit
- re-enrolling each semester until submission for examination. Total: up to 2 years full time equivalent
Admissions
Academic admission requirements (Band 8) may be satisfied through completion of one of the following: a bachelor degree in a cognate discipline, or, where accepted, equivalent prior learning including at least five years of relevant professional experience.
