Master of Information Technology

Griffith's Master of IT sits inside the university's Nathan campus tech precinct, a short walk from the Cyber Range that the School of ICT built with defence-industry funding. Students in the security specialisation actually run attack-and-defend exercises against simulated networks there rather than just reading about them. The degree is built for career-changers: roughly half of any given cohort arrives with an undergraduate degree in something unrelated (commerce, biology, the occasional music grad) and the first trimester is deliberately weighted toward programming fundamentals and systems thinking before the specialisations open up.

From second trimester students pick a track (software development, data science, network and cyber security, or enterprise systems), and the coursework gets noticeably more project-based, with several units assessed entirely on a working deliverable rather than exams. Griffith's industry ties in South-East Queensland (Telstra, Suncorp, various defence primes based near Amberley) mean the capstone project frequently comes with a real client brief attached, not a simulated one.

Graduates skew toward Brisbane's growing cyber security and fintech employers, though a decent slice go on to further study: Griffith runs a fairly well-used PhD pipeline out of this cohort for students who get hooked on a research problem during the capstone.
