Bachelor of Archaeology

Explore the human past as you uncover the stories, cultures and environments that shaped our world with La Trobe's Bachelor of Archaeology. In this degree, you'll learn from leading researchers and industry experts as you explore ancient societies, Indigenous histories and archaeological discoveries from Australia and across the globe. You'll examine how people lived, adapted and transformed landscapes over thousands of years while building specialist capabilities in archaeological investigation, scientific analysis and ethical community engagement. You'll develop practical skills in archaeological fieldwork, science and heritage management through hands-on learning in highly regarded facilities and real-world settings. You'll also gain real-world industry experience in our second-year industry-partnered excavation subject, as well as having the option to build on this with an industry placement or a field school. Tailor your degree with the flexibility to study an open access major, or a minor plus four electives. By studying the Bachelor of Archaeology, you will learn: practical archaeological fieldwork and excavation methods used in professional archaeology ethical and culturally respectful approaches to heritage management and collaboration with Traditional Owners and local communities archaeological traditions, ancient societies and cultures from Australia, Asia, the Pacific, the Middle East and beyond scientific and digital archaeological methods, including geophysical survey, geographic information systems (GIS), archaeomagnetic dating techniques and palaeoenvironmental analyses. The qualification awarded on graduation is recognised in the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) as Level 7 - Bachelor Degree.
