About this program
The Bachelor of Languages and Linguistics at La Trobe University builds proficiency in a chosen language alongside a deep understanding of how languages are structured, used and learned. Students study key areas of linguistics including phonetics, syntax, semantics and pragmatics, and examine how language varies across social and cultural contexts. Alongside the language major, students tailor their studies through electives or a minor, exploring additional languages including Auslan or complementary disciplines, and gain real-world experience through industry-based learning. Graduates pursue roles in international relations, education, translation, speech pathology and media.
