PhD

Doctor of Philosophy (Faculty of Science)

Monash University, Melbourne, VIC, Australia

About this program

Monash's Doctor of Philosophy through the Faculty of Science is the standard research doctorate for science graduates, centred on completing a substantial original research thesis under the guidance of a dedicated supervisory team, supported by professional development activities alongside the research itself. Because the specific research topic and discipline depend entirely on the individual student's area of interest within the sciences, spanning anything from chemistry to physics to environmental science, the actual content of any given PhD varies enormously between candidates. Graduates demonstrate they've designed and executed a research project making an original and substantial contribution to their field, alongside developing the professional skills needed to make an impact across academia, industry, government or community settings. It suits science graduates with a strong existing research background, typically an honours degree or research master's, who have identified a specific research question they want to pursue over several years of doctoral study.
