Graduate Certificate of Journalism

Monash University, Melbourne, VIC, Australia

About this program

Monash's Graduate Certificate of Journalism gives emerging journalists a critical foundation in journalistic theory and practice, built for people moving into journalism from another field as much as those refining skills they already have. The four-unit course builds critical thinking, writing and presentation skills specifically for multicultural media contexts, reflecting the reality that Australian journalism increasingly serves diverse audiences and covers international stories. It suits career-changers testing journalism as a profession before committing to Monash's full Master of Journalism, as well as working communications professionals who want formal grounding in journalistic method and ethics. Because it's a short, four-unit certificate, it works best as a stepping stone into further journalism study rather than a complete professional journalism qualification on its own.
