Master of Advanced Study (Engineering Research)
Monash University, Melbourne, VIC, Australia
About this program
Monash's Master of Advanced Study (Engineering Research) is a research-only degree in which students independently investigate a research problem in engineering that they formulate themselves, working under a dedicated supervisory team rather than following set coursework units. Because there's no fixed curriculum, the actual content and direction of study depends entirely on the individual research topic and the student's chosen engineering discipline, making the course fundamentally different from a coursework master's degree. It suits engineering graduates who already have a genuine research question they want to pursue and are looking for a credential that reflects independent research capability, often as a pathway toward a PhD or a research career in industry or academia. Applicants need to demonstrate genuine capacity for independent research and adequate prior training to pursue their proposed area of study.
