Master of Arts Research Training
Monash University, Melbourne, VIC, Australia
About this program
Monash's Master of Arts Research Training is a research-only degree in the humanities and social sciences, where students independently investigate a self-formulated research problem under the guidance of a dedicated supervisory team rather than completing set coursework units. Because it's structured as research training rather than taught content, the specific focus of study depends entirely on the student's chosen research topic within arts, humanities or social science disciplines. Entry requires strong prior academic performance, either a three-year Monash bachelor's degree with a high weighted average mark and strong results in a research capstone unit, or an upper second-class honours degree or equivalent. It suits humanities and social science graduates with a genuine research question they want to pursue, often as a stepping stone toward PhD study or a research-focused career, rather than students looking for a taught postgraduate arts qualification.
