About this program
Monash's Master of Engineering extends an existing engineering undergraduate degree into a chosen specialisation, covering engineering management, biological, civil, electrical, energy transitions, materials, mechanical, power systems, renewable energy and smart manufacturing engineering. Rather than repeating undergraduate content, the course builds leadership and complex problem-solving skills in a genuinely cross-cultural environment, assuming students already have the technical grounding from their first engineering degree. It suits engineering graduates who want deeper technical specialisation or a leadership-oriented extension to their qualification without duplicating undergraduate coursework, and it's shorter than starting a second bachelor's degree in a different engineering discipline. The wide range of specialisations means the course can serve very different career directions, from a mechanical engineer moving into renewable energy to a civil engineer specialising in materials, depending entirely on which specialisation a student selects.

Course structure
The course comprises 48 points structured into three parts
- 18 pointsPart A. Core studies
- 24 pointsPart B. Specialist studies
- and Part C. Specialist elective studies (6 points). PART A. CORE STUDIES (18 Points) You must complete the three units required for your chosen specialisation (18 credit points) Studying Energy transitions engineering or Power systems engineering ECE5886 Smart grids ENG5001 Advanced data analytics for engineers ENG5008 Industry experience* * ENG5008 is subject to placement availability. You may substitute it with a level 5 unit as prescribed by the Faculty. Admissions
An Australian Bachelor of Engineering* degree (or equivalent) in a discipline relating to the specialisation to be studied within the Master course as approved by the Faculty, with at least high credit (65%) average. *equivalent to an Australian 4 year Bachelor of Engineering degree *Please note the Engineering Management, Renewable Energy Engineering and Smart Manufacturing Engineering specialisations are available to applicants with an Australian Bachelor of Engineering (or equivalent) in any discipline excluding software engineering. For other Master's specialisations, the prior qualification must be in a related discipline. *Please note that the Power Systems Engineering specialisation is available only to applicants with an Australian Bachelor of Engineering (or equivalent) in electrical engineering.
