About this program
Monash's Master of Environment and Sustainability is a two-year interdisciplinary course that connects global change knowledge with sustainability principles, built around the understanding that social, economic and environmental systems are deeply interdependent rather than separable problems. Students choose one of five specialisations and work in real-world contexts that combine theory and practice, tackling local and international corporate, government and social environmental concerns rather than staying purely academic. The course develops both a solid knowledge base in environmental science and a genuinely diverse vocational skill set, since environmental leadership roles increasingly require competence across policy, science and stakeholder management simultaneously. It suits graduates aiming for strategic environmental leadership roles spanning policy formulation, regulation, environmental management and capacity building, rather than narrowly technical environmental science research positions, and the specialisation structure lets students tailor the degree toward their specific area of environmental interest.

- The course comprises 96 points structured into four parts: Part A. Environment and sustainability core studies (24 points), Part B. Specialisation preparatory studies (24 points), Part C. Specialist studies (24 points), and Part D. Advanced practice (24 points). Units are 6 points unless otherwise stated. Part A.
