About this program
Monash's Master of International Development Practice takes a multidisciplinary, applied approach to sustainable human development, drawing on specialists across humanities, medicine, business, education and law faculties to address the complex challenges driving poverty, fragile governance and environmental vulnerability worldwide. Students choose electives from streams including democracy, justice and governance, gender, peace and security, crisis and change management, sustainable resource management, and sustainable economies, letting the degree serve quite different development career paths under one qualification. Fieldwork, study abroad and internship opportunities, including field schools, give students direct exposure to development practice rather than only theoretical study. Graduates typically move into roles at NGOs, aid agencies, government development departments, and international institutions such as the United Nations or World Bank, and the course suits people aiming for hands-on development practice careers rather than purely academic development studies.
