About this program
Monash's Master of Journalism trains students to think critically, scrutinise evidence and investigate the structural problems that shape society, using dedicated television and radio studios and editing suites to keep graduates practice-ready alongside their academic training. The curriculum covers current and emerging media practice from investigative journalism and photography through to digital and audio-visual production, aiming to produce journalists who can work across multiple formats rather than specialising narrowly in one medium. An international field trip gives students exposure to global media markets, and the course positions itself as training future media leaders as much as working journalists, with graduates going on to research careers and PhD study as well as newsrooms. It suits people aiming for journalism careers in a rapidly changing media landscape shaped by misinformation and competing platforms, as well as those wanting strong critical communication skills for adjacent careers in media-adjacent fields.

- The course comprises 96 credit points and is structured in five parts: Part A. Foundation studies, Part B. Core studies, Part C. Applied studies, Part D. Professional practice studies and Part E. Elective studies. Units are 6 points unless otherwise stated. Part A: Foundation studies (12 credit points) You must complete the following units.
