About this program
The Master of Development Studies prepares students for roles in the international development sector, in Australia and internationally. The course examines the connections between politics, governance, and development, social and environmental sustainability, food and health security, gender and empowerment, and state building and conflict, and evaluates different approaches to policy and practice. Students can choose professional electives such as financial administration, leading and managing not-for-profit organisations, effective leadership, strategic health care management, and project management, or policy-based electives in global public health, public sector economics, security and conflict, and environmental policy, and can add up to two language units in Indonesian or Japanese. Development studies is not on Australia's skilled occupation lists, and many Australian public-sector roles require citizenship, so this degree is more relevant to NGO, international-organisation, or further-study pathways than to skilled migration. The program is delivered by Murdoch University in Western Australia.
